Grande Prairie remembers

Peace Region residents braved the cold yesterday to pay tribute to Canadian soldiers past and present.

Jim Hopkins laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion Grande Prairie branch.

He says he keeps the memory of his father, who served in World War II, with him every year on Remembrance Day.

“He started in 1939 and went right through to 1945 and came home. He was one of the lucky ones, I guess. I carry his medals with me in my pocket every Remembrance Day.”

People were also able to take part in ceremonies at Revolution Place, and around the county in Hythe, Wembley, Sexsmith and Beaverlodge.
