Potential measles exposure at Edmonton International Airport

People who travelled through Edmonton International Airport on February 12th or 13th should watch for symptoms of measles. Alberta Health Services has issued an alert after someone with a lab-confirmed case of the extremely contagious, airborne virus spent 19 hours on a layover in the area.

The individual flew from Vancouver to Edmonton via Air Canada Flight AC236 on February 12th, and stopped at the Walmart Supercentre and Stars Inn Hotel in Leduc. There may also have been exposure on the Edmonton International Airport Hotel Shuttle on the 12th and 13th.

AHS says people who were in the locations on those dates, who were born after 1970, and have not already had measles disease or received two doses of measles vaccine may be at risk for developing measles. They’re encouraged to watch for symptoms like a fever of 38.3 degrees Celsius or higher, a cough, runny nose and/or red eyes,
and a red blotchy rash three to seven days after fever starts for three weeks.

It’s noted that the measles vaccine is offered for free in Alberta. The specific dates and times of potential exposure are below:
