Five local bars recognized for commitment to patron safety

The first winner of the Best Bar None award in Grande Prairie was handed out to Maddhatters last night.

The award recognizes efforts maintain a high standard of service and safety among licensed establishments.

Maddhatters owner Jason Petrone says since the program launched in June, best practices for patron safety were being reinforced amongst staff, things like making sure patrons make it home safely.

“Especially in Grande Prairie, it gets dark early, there’s a lot of risk with that, and also with the weather. We’re continuously working with our staff on alternative driving and safe driving, that sort of thing, and this program’s just helping us to develop that more.”

Best Bar None VP of Compliance and Social Responsibility, Shane Loxtercamp also says creating a safe nightlife is so important to a city.

“It keeps all the customers safe, but I think something else important is that it encourages a profitable environment for businesses the area, and we know that nightlife really contributes overall to the city.”

Also accredited by Best Bar None last night was the Den Pub and Carvery, the Crown and Anchor, Better than Fred’s, and Diamonds Gentleman’s Club.
