UPDATE: Driver killed in Highway 40 crash

UPDATE #2: Traffic on Highway 40 is back to normal after a fatal crash early Sunday morning. RCMP says a Jeep crashed with two semi-trucks around 12:15 a.m., killing the 34-year-old man driving the Jeep. He was declared dead at the scene. Police say an investigation is ongoing.

Sunday’s crash marks the second fatal collision on the stretch of Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie this month. On February 9th, a 64-year-old man from Saskatchewan was killed in a crash with a semi truck and a vac truck at the intersection with Archie Way Road.

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP confirms the highway is closed 20 kilometres south of the city due to a serious crash. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and to expect delays in both directions.

Highway 40 is closed to traffic in both directions south of Grande Prairie. The Grovedale Fire Department reports it is shut down south of Township Road 700 near the Norbord turnoff.
