Bi-weekly updates on Eastlink Centre deficit expected from City

The City is working to reduce a $1.75 million deficit at the Eastlink Centre it recently discovered due to a bookkeeping error.

Community Living Director Garry Roth says a review is underway, and the Corporate Services Committee has asked for regular updates.

“So we’ll be every two weeks providing information to the committee as to our progress. We’re just in the process of hiring an external consultant to come in, and of course that takes a little bit of time. We’re well into that process, and as soon as our external consultant is hired, we’ll keep moving forward.”

Roth says the city likely won’t get recommendations back from the consultant until the new year.
In the meantime, they’ve put non-essential spending on hold and not renewed some job contracts.
