Rotary Dream Home opens Friday

The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie is preparing to open the doors of its 2019 dream home. Tickets for the 2546 square foot home in Carriage Lane Estates go on sale Friday. Raffle Manager Kevin Hilgers says one of the highlights of this year’s home built by High Mark Homes is an 18 foot indoor slide.

“Carston [Siebert] with High Mark has always wanted to do a slide. Again, it’s just something to get people excited. It’s unique, it’s different, it’s fun and it’s something that’s oh wow, wouldn’t it be fun to have a slide in the home for the kids, or the grandkids or visiting kids or the grown ups as a matter of fact.”

Starting Friday, the home will normally be open for viewing Thursday through Sunday. A full list of hours can be found on the Dream home’s website.

This will be the 26th year the Dream Home Lottery has been held in the Grande Prairie area. Around 28 different groups like PARDS and the Air Cadets help sell tickets and they get a portion of the proceeds. The rest of the money goes to the Rotary Club to be distributed to community projects such as the renovations at the D-Coy Armories building.

Hilgers says the point of the dream home is to get people thinking about what could be.

“The goal is to create a dream for people and to create something that is unlike what we did last year… I think when people walk in they’re going to start dreaming. Their brain starts to tick. Where would I put the grandkids?… and I think that’s what makes it exciting.”

Single tickets for the home start at $100 and can be purchased online, by phone, at the Prairie Mall or at the Dream Home. Tickets will be sold until the end of April unless they sell out before then.

The final draw will be held on April 26th.
