People will soon have a new way to pay for the rural transit system starting up next month. On November 19th, pre-loaded fare cards for the first phase of service on the County Connector will go on sale. Family Community Support Services Director Kathleen Turner says the SUPERPASS card will be a faster way for people to pay for transit.
“A SUPERPASS is an extremely easy and convenient method of payment for users of the County Connector. Riders will simply tap their valid SUPERPASS as they get onto the bus to pay for their fare.”
The County Connector is a two-year pilot project designed to give people living in the surrounding area a way to get to Grande Prairie. The first phase which will see buses travel from the city to Sexsmith and Clairmont is set to roll out on December 5th.
$20 and $40 SUPERPASS cards can be purchased at the Clairmont Fast Gas and the Sexsmith Town Office. They can also be purchased in Grande Prairie at the New Horizon Co-Op, the Prairie Mall Shoppers Drug Mart, and City Hall.
Once a card has been purchased, it can be reloaded online or at one of the city’s facilities including City Hall, the Eastlink Centre and the Ernie Radbourne Pavillion.
A single ride on the new system will cost $5 with children 11 and under riding free. Fares can be paid using the SUPERPASS card or exact change.
The card is only for the County Connector. Anyone planning to transfer to the city’s transit system will need to purchase a separate pass from the city.
