Wired 2 Hire application deadline approaching

The Deadline to apply for a work skills program in Grande Prairie is almost here. The program called Wired 2 Hire gives students age 16-30 some of the job skills and certificates needed to get hired in the area.

The free, six-week training program gives students the option to take five shorter courses and two electives to earn certificates in things like food safety and first aid. Former student Ashley Mantilla says the program has put her ahead of other candidates looking for the same jobs.

“A lot of people in Grande Prairie don’t have these tickets prior to getting these jobs and me having the tickets prior to having the job has given me a leg up to being hired versus the people that don’t.”

The program is put on by the Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau and will run from September 20– November 3. Mantilla says the program has given her the skills she uses in her current job and highly recommends it to others.

“Our Community needs to be more educated and this program helps the younger people who are looking for jobs to be more aware of what’s out there and the options that we have.”

The deadline to apply online is September 20. To find out more or to apply for the program visit the Bureau’s website.
