Suspect on the run causes multi-vehicle crash

A woman under arrest who broke free from police custody ended up causing a crash in Grande Prairie. The RCMP says officers pulled the woman over in the area of 97A Street and 100 Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday as she was wanted on warrants.

The suspect was arrested, but she managed to break away and get back into her Jeep. She reportedly sped off while officers were still holding on to the doors of her vehicle.

Police say she was found about 20 minutes later driving in the area of 68 Avenue and 92 Street, but she wouldn’t stop. Mounties started to chase her, but say they stopped almost right away when she started driving dangerously into a residential area.

It’s alleged the woman kept speeding and was heading north on 92 Street when her Jeep crashed into an SUV and a gravel truck stopped at the intersection with 100 Avenue. The suspect is then said to have run from her vehicle before she was caught by police.
