County issues fire advisory

A fire advisory has been put in place for the County of Grande Prairie along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley and the Village of Hyth.

The advisory is in effect due to extreme heat and heavy smoke from nearby wildfires. Temperatures are expected to climb in the next few days into the high 20s to 30s and hazy conditions caused by smoke drifting in from the wildfires in B.C. are expected to remain in the air for the next couple of days.

No new permits for heavy or non-essential burning will be issued until further notice. Residents who have existing permits are advised not to burn outside of the conditions of their permit. Burning is also not permitted when winds reach 12 km per hour or higher.

There is also a fire advisory in place for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
