Speeding and parking in school zones still a major concern

It happens every year, but it seems drivers still aren’t getting the message about slowing down in school zones.

During the first four days of the school year, 361 people were caught speeding by local schools.

Tickets were also handed out for illegal U-turns, distracted driving, not stopping for pedestrians, and passing other vehicles.

Peace Officer Sergeant Gord McMahon says parking is also another problem.

51 drivers were nabbed parking in school bus zones and crosswalks, as well as double parking and stopping in the middle of the road to pick up and drop off children.

This can be dangerous for students, as visibility is reduced for both them and motorists.
