MD of Greenview fielding dog complaints

The MD of Greenview is also dealing with dog issues. The municipal district says it has gotten a number of complaints about roaming dogs, including what it calls a “serious biting incident” in the Grovedale area.

A Dog Control Bylaw has been in effect for Greenview hamlets and some subdivisions since 2003, which requires all dogs to be on a leash when in public, and to be under control of their owner at all times. Any dogs labelled “vicious” must also be muzzled.

“Fines for infractions of the Dog Control Bylaw range from $50 to $100 for first offences and then double for any repeat offences and can range up to $2,500,” the MD says. “The Animal Control Officer may seize animals at large or capture and impound any dog which is believed to have committed an offence under this bylaw.”

The bylaw also mandates that any animal waste on public or private property, other than that of the animal’s owner, be immediately cleaned up. Another dog attack was recently reported in the City of Grande Prairie, and a city committee deemed two other dogs “vicious”.
