One dead in Highway 43 crash near Whitecourt

RCMP say alcohol was a factor in a crash that killed one person and injured three others early Thursday morning. Officers were called to Highway 43 east of Whitecourt just after midnight.

Preliminary investigation has led them to believe an eastbound sedan rear-ended an eastbound pickup truck, which caused it to roll. A 48 year old man who was a passenger in the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup’s driver was treated on the scene for minor injuries, while a 16 year old passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The 28 year old man reported to have been driving the sedan has criminal charges pending against him. He also received minor injuries. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
