This year’s Rotary Dream Home Lottery winner will be moving in as soon as possible. Dave Ogreysik of Sexsmith was out of town when his name was drawn last Thursday, and got his first tour of his new home in Taylor Estates on Tuesday.
Some past Dream Home winners have opted put their property on the market, but Ogreysik and his girlfriend Marteena Duda said they knew they would move in if they won.
“It’s more of a fantasy when you’re picking your rooms and joking with one another,” Ogreysik says.
“But it was no question when we found out that he won that we would be moving in,” adds Duda.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect for the couple. Duda says they were already looking to move to Grande Prairie, and were getting ready to sell their Sexsmith home.
“We’ve been looking to list, getting it ready to list this summer and move back to town. So now it’s going to be on the market real quick!”
The home valued at nearly $1.5 million is also perfect for the pair, who feel like they’re in the country but are only a few minutes from City of Grande Prairie limits. They have nothing but praise for the home builder Stonebuilt Homes and the decorations, and plan to keep all of the furnishing as is.
“I don’t see anything at the moment I’d want to change,” says Ogreysik. “It’s the nicest dream home I think they’ve ever built.”
Both Ogreysik and Duda have been long time supporters of the Dream Home, and between the two of them spent $900 on tickets this year. They say they plan to keep buying tickets in the future.
“I’d love to thank Rotary for the great work they do in the community and the support and the great house that they worked to [build] and give away every year,” Ogreysik says. “It’s made a huge change to my life.”
The hope is to move in over the May long weekend, with two Ogreysik’s younger children joining shortly after. A big house warming party is in the works.
