Assault suspect tries to escape arrest

A Grande Prairie man is facing several charges after a woman reported being assaulted Friday morning. Emergency services were called to the Sexsmith area around 10 a.m. on March 2nd, and a female patient was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect fled the scene and was tracked down to a hotel north of Sexsmith the next day. After the man was arrested, he reportedly tried to run off again. Constable Melanie McIntosh says officers “were forced to struggle with him” before he could be taken into custody.

27 year old Jeremie Laframboise is facing 16 criminal charges, including aggravated assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats, as well as multiple firearms and breach charges. His scuffle with police also lead to two counts each of assaulting, disarming, and resisting an officer.

RCMP say the officers involved weren’t hurt. Laframboise was set to appear in court Monday.
