A shoplifting suspect is facing assault charges after allegedly bear spraying a Canadian Tire employee and a Good Samaritan. Grande Prairie RCMP were called to the store just before noon Wednesday.
By the time officers arrived, they found a man being restrained. It’s reported he had tried to steal from the store and was followed by the employee and a bystander.
There was an altercation and both men suffered minor injuries. Police say a can of bear spray, brass knuckles, and what’s believed to be a small amount of cocaine were found on the suspect.
A 22 year old Grande Prairie man is facing two counts each of assault with a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon, as well as theft under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance and three counts of failing to comply with recognizance. He’s set to appear in court on Monday, March 5th.
