UPDATE: St. Andrew’s School safe after bomb threat

UPDATE: Police have given the school division the all clear to get back in the building. School will be open as usual Tuesday. We have reached out to RCMP for more information on the threat.

St. Andrew’s School in High Prairie has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. Holy Family Catholic Regional Division says the verbal threat came in Monday afternoon, but doesn’t disclose how it was received.

The K to 12 school was immediately evacuated, and RCMP are currently conducting a search of the building. No one is allowed to re-enter at this time, and Superintendent Betty Turpin says it’s possible it could remain closed tomorrow.

“We are awaiting direction from the RCMP about when the school will be deemed safe to re-enter,” she explains.
“We are asking that all parents and guardians check the St. Andrew’s website this evening, as there is a slim chance that the RCMP will recommend that we keep the school closed tomorrow in the best interest of student and staff safety.”
