Revolution Place introducing security wands

More security is coming to Revolution Place. Starting next month, handheld security wands will be used to scan people going to all concerts and major events. General Manager Scott Clark says it’s a measure already in place in many similar venues.

“We want to make sure that we’re making the safest environment we can. There was no incident or anything like that; it’s just a matter of analyzing them on an ongoing basis. Maybe we’re behind a little bit; it’s time to up our game.”

Clark says they’ll continue to look at their security processes, and will likely make more changes in the future. He wouldn’t confirm the cost of the equipment, but says it’s “not a major expense”, taking in training time for staff.

The wands will first be used at the Hedley concert on February 9th. Clark says people should come prepared for slightly longer than normal lineups due to the new procedures.

“For the first little while you want to probably arrive 10 or 15 minutes earlier than you normally would. I think any time you change the protocol it takes a little while for people to get in the groove.”

As the wands pick up on any metal in pockets, Clark also recommends people leave anything like a pocket knife at home or in their vehicle. Knives and weapons are already prohibited.
