Grande Prairie residents have until the end of this week to nominate local women who have made a positive social difference in the community for an award. The city is launching the Women of Influence Awards to celebrate women in Grande Prairie who “have demonstrated innovative and inspiring approaches to leadership, volunteerism or community involvement.”
There are three award categories: Young Woman of Influence from women under 30 years old, Trailblazing Woman of Influence from those 30 to 49 years old, and Distinguished Woman of Influence for those 50 and older. Nominees must demonstrate unique and influential achievements in making social change in the community.
The awards will be handed out at an awards reception and luncheon on International Women’s Day 2018, March 8th. Recently elected city councillor Eunice Friesen will be the keynote speaker.
“It is such a privilege to be chosen for this event. I consider myself to be an ordinary individual, but because of the many transformative women in my life I’ve been empowered to make a difference in the lives of those around me and in the city of Grande Prairie.”
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, January 26th. Nomination packages are online.
