Aykroyd family presented the Key to the Peace Region

Dan Aykroyd and his family received their Keys to the Peace Region yesterday as thanks for all the instrumental role they’ve played in promoting and funding the Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum.

The family was given keys by representitives of all the municipalities within 200 kilometres, including the Horse Lake Cree Nation.

One large key was given to Dan and Donna, along with smaller keys, which were also presented to their daughters, and goddaughter.

Aykroyd’s wife Donna Dixon says they are very honoured, though there are certainly others who deserve just as much recognition.

“We fell like the keys should be going to Al Lakusta, who found the skull of a Pachyrhinosaurus, and if it wasn’t for him, none of us would be here. I also think of Phil Currie.”

The family has been to the Pipestone Creek bone bed several times, and Dixon says the region has become very important to her.

“I’ve taken my family tracking for tigers in India, we’ve gone to the bottom of the world to Antarctica twice, we’ve lived with the Maasai in Africa, but working on the bone bed that’s in your back yard was the most thrilling week.”

They’re out there today along with several other celebrities.

Aykroyd will be leading the Mighty Peace Harley Davidson Aykroyd Family Ride out to the museum tomorrow to kick off the ribbon cutting, which will be followed by the Amber Ball Saturday evening.
