Third day of record rain in Grande Prairie

Another day, another rainfall record for Grande Prairie. 19 millimetres of rain fell in the Swan City Wednesday, unofficially beating the previous September 20th record of 8.1 millimetres set in 1947.

The downpour followed two straight days of record rainfall. 26.6 millimetres Tuesday unofficially broke the September 19th, 1971 record of 20.3 millimetres, and Monday’s 13.8 millimetres passed the the previous September 18th record of 8.0 millimetres from 2004.

It’s unlikely we’ll see a fourth record day in a row. The record for September 21st is 14.2 millimetres set in 2008, but Environment Canada is only calling for a 60 per cent chance of rain in Grande Prairie Thursday.

The city’s grass fields are still closed.
