Grande Prairie wildfire hazard dropped to moderate

Rain over the weekend has lessened the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to moderate. However, wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says there’s still warm, sunny days in the forecast that will likely increase it.

“This is also the time of year when grass begins to cure which typically creates a fall wildfire hazard in large areas of dry, cured grass which can burn quickly,” she adds.”

Anyone out in a forested area is reminded to check hot spots on their off-highway vehicles and make sure their campfire is fully extinguished before leaving it. There are no active wildfires in the Grande Prairie region.
