Rotary House building second group washroom

A new bathroom will be built at Grande Prairie’s Rotary House. The homeless shelter has gotten $25,000 from the provincial government for the much needed upgrade. Acting Executive Director Cristin Winiandy says they’ve been waiting for the funding for some time.

“Right now we’re sharing one bathroom between male and female clients just splitting times up, so it would be really beneficial for us to just have one for male and one for female.”

An existing room will be repurposed for the new bathroom. Now that they have the funds, they’ll be nailing down a construction timeline.

The Alberta government recently announced $1.2 million for upgrades to homeless shelters, and the Grande Prairie Elders Caring Society also got $4,542. Shelter manager Benita Galandy says the money went towards a new industrial deep freezer and repairs to their eavestrough.
