The skate park at Muskoseepi Park will getting a little bit bigger. Sport and Recreation Manager Kylee Haining says use at the facility is growing and they want to be able to accommodate it.
“It includes design and expansion to the skate park. It is part of the Master Plan which would guide our development for action sport in the city for the next couple of budget cycles.”
The project is budgeted at around $475,000. She says to give the improvements some scale, the skate park at the Eastlink Centre was around $190,000. The Muskoseepi location will be about double the size of the one at Eastlink when it is complete.
“There is not just skateboarders that use the parks. If you look at the park now, it is used by scooters and BMX bikes too. There has been and ask for some features that could be used for parkour.”
It has been recommended by the Community Living Committee that New Line Skateparks Inc. work on the design. The final approval will go through city council on April 17th.
