Controlled burn set for area near International Paper

If you see smoke south of Grande Prairie this week, the county of Grande Prairie is planning a burn. In order to reduce the risk of wildfire, the County along with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry are working on a controlled burn near International Paper along the railway tracks.

Fire Marshal Ken Atamanchuk says they remove the grass to stop the spread of fire and give training experience to wildland firefighters. It will begin between April 4th and 6th depending on the weather.

If it is rainy or windy, it may take a few more days than expected. There will be fire equipment, fire trucks and smoke in the area.
