City adds Avondale bus loop, another direct route to Eastlink Centre

The city is making changes to a couple of its bus routes. For at least the next six months, a loop has been added to route 5 that will take it into Avondale.

When the bus rounds the bypass after leaving Grande Prairie Regional College, it will turn at Centre 2000. It will then loop along 106th and 108th Avenue, Dewitt Drive and 112th Ave. before heading towards Royal Oaks.

The route will now include the Northern Addictions Centre, the trails in Muskoseepi Park, and the Composite High School. The change is a pilot project that will be reviewed after half a year.

The other change is to route 7 to add a direct link from Westpointe, Pinnacle Ridge, and O’Brien Lake to the Eastlink Centre. Buses will now head straight to the area in both directions. B

Assistant Transit Manager Steve Harvard explains that before, when it came from the west, it would only stop on 68th Avenue by Harvey’s and continue east without stopping at at Charles Spencer and St. Joe’s High Schools. Residents can now take routes 3, 6, or 7 with 10 minute travel time, every 30 minutes during peak times.
