Historic wooden bridge deemed unsafe after crash

A historic bridge in the B.C. Peace has been closed after a crash early Monday morning. Dawson Creek RCMP say a pickup truck slid off the road and hit the curved wooden bridge on the Old Alaska Highway.

A number of support beams were damaged as the vehicle slid down the side of the Kiskatinaw River embankment. The pickup was also pretty beat up, but somehow the driver from Alberta escaped without getting hurt.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has deemed the bridge to be unsafe due to the damage and it has been closed indefinitely with barriers in place. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
