John William Roberts made a valiant effort to escape arrest in Peace River, but still ended up in police custody. Peace Regional RCMP first tried to pull the man over in a suspicious vehicle Tuesday evening, but he ran off after driving into a ditch and managed to hitch a ride with someone else.
Officers were able to find and arrest him, but he managed to escape from the police vehicle. Roberts was then tracked down to a nearby house he had broken into, but he fought a mountie off and climbed up a tree. RCMP was eventually able to coax their prisoner down and he’s now facing 13 criminal charges.
He was also wanted on an arrest warrant out of Stony Plain. He’ll be in Peace River court on March 6th and Stony Plain on the 8th. No one was hurt in the incident.
