Break and enter suspect dies during police response

A break and enter suspect has died on the couch of his alleged victim. Beaverlodge RCMP were called to a home near Goodfare Saturday, and when the owner let them in, they found a 20 year old man lying on a couch.

As they approached, he stood up and picked up a shotgun that was lying nearby. Officers moved out of the house and surrounded it while backup was called. They weren’t able to reach the man, and when they made it back inside, his body was found.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is now investigating, as the death is considered under police custody. So far, it’s believed no shots were fired by any mounties. ASIRT steps in to independently look into incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death.
