Salvation Army pulls out of Housing First project

The city has announced that the Salvation Army is pulling out of the Housing First project, effective immediately. The move came at the request of the Salvation Army, although no reasoning was given. Community Homelessness Initiative Supervisor Katherine Sheppard says the 42 people that were housed through Sally Ann will have their cases transferred to other Housing First agenices in the city.
“We have case managers in our city that are already providing that service to help individuals experiencing homelessness move into homes. As we move forward, all of those individuals are housed and will continue to be.”
Salvation Army will offer case support during a transition phase that will end July 31st. They will also continue to be an active partner through their food bank, meal program and other support programs.
