Driver survives “spectacular” head on collision with logging truck

A man is lucky to be alive after his vehicle was hit head on by a logging truck near Whitecourt. The crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning on Highway 32 south of the town.

RCMP say the car was driving northbound in the wrong lane, and was hit by the southbound empty logging truck. Sergeant Tom Kalis calls the collision spectacular, and says the passenger side of the car was obliterated. The driver was ejected and all air bags deployed.

The 34 year old Whitecourt man has been taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending against him. The logging truck sustained only minor damage and its driver was not hurt.

A police investigation continues.
