Grande Prairie’s regional unemployment rate drops again

The unemployment rate in Calgary has reached double digits, and is now the highest it’s been since 1993. Despite the first noticeable increase in resource sector jobs since March 2015, Statistics Canada says the city is now sitting at 10.2 per cent unemployment.

The economic region that houses Grande Prairie has seen its unemployment rate drop for the third month in a row. It’s down a full percentage point from 6.6 per cent to 5.6.

Overall employment in Alberta was up by 9,000 jobs, but 8,100 of those were part-time. It’s jobless rate is unchanged at 8.5 per cent. Canada’s also held steady in October at 7 per cent.
