Pipeline leak near Fox Creek covers three hectares

Just how much oil emulsion has leaked from a pipeline near Fox Creek is still unknown, but the spill is estimated to cover three hectares of land. President of Trilogy Energy John Williams says he’s been out to the site 15 kilometres northeast of the town with other members of the management team.

As previously reported, the line has been shut-in and purged, containing the source of the leak discovered a week ago. It’s in a rural area, but has impacted a flowing marsh area.

Trilogy says it has developed sampling and monitoring, recovery, waste management and wildlife and water control plans that are pending approval by the Alberta Energy Regulator.

“Trilogy has developed a diversion plan that will minimize the infiltration of surface water and prevent further disbursement of the spill,” says a release. :Trilogy also continues to monitor and deter wildlife from accessing the site. Recovery and disposal of contaminated material has commenced.”
