Fire Prevention Week puts focus on smoke alarms

Half of fire deaths happen from fires reported between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am and the City and County of Grande Prairie would like to help prevent those from happening.

Fire Prevention Week will begin this weekend with a special focus on smoke alarms.

This year the theme is Don’t Wait! Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 years. Fire safety is highlighted with education on taking precautions to prevent fires as well as on how to survive them.

The awareness week will kick off in the County of Grande Prairie at the Teepee Creek Fire Hall. There will be free breakfast as well as firefighter meet and greet on Saturday October 8th starting at 8:30 am. There will also be fire hall tours ongoing during.

A firefighter meet and greet will also be held at the La Glace Fire Station on Tuesday October 11th at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

This year Fire Prevention Week runs from October 9th to 16th.
