RCMP are investigating a house fire just outside of Whitecourt as a case of arson. Along with the local fire department, they responded to the blaze in Woodlands County shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
When authorities arrived the home was completely engulfed in flames and as firefighters battled them, they heard explosions from ammunition inside. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the house is considered a total loss.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and Whitecourt General Investigation Section are working together to investigate the suspicious fire. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
