The Grande Spirit Foundation is hosting a celebration for seniors in the Peace Country next month.
There are a number of festivities planned this summer for Grande Prairie’s 100th anniversary, but General Manager Debbie Normington says they wanted a special event to focus on the contributions seniors have made to building the community.
“They’re the pioneers for our community, and for this area, it’s a fairly young area and a lot of those people came here when there wasn’t an awful lot, there wasn’t a lot of roads built so they made some sacrifices. I think it’s really important to recognize that.”
The 100 Years of Pioneers celebration will be held at the Entrec Centre on June 5th.
Normington says she is hoping to see around 500 seniors being shuttled in from across the Peace to take part.
