House explosion considered an arson case

An explosion that destroyed a Mountview area home early Saturday morning is being investigated as a case of arson. The force of the blast around 4:20 a.m. knocked the walls off of the foundation and collapsed the house’s roof.

According to friends, the woman inside at the time remains in hospital getting treatment for burns and a cracked rib and has undergone back surgery.

RCMP Constable Melanie McIntosh says the cause of the explosion is still under investigation and police haven’t determined whether it was related to another arson up 96th Street at Hillcrest Drive around 2:30 the next morning. In that case, the back part of a home was significantly damaged but no one was injured. A man was seen filling up a jerry can at a convenience store beforehand.
