Wildrose talking hot issues at Grande Prairie open house

Wildrose leader Brian Jean will be back in Grande Prairie this week to hear from residents about their vision for the future of Alberta. A barbecue and open house will be held Wednesday night starting at 5:30 at Teresa Sargent Hall and the event is not limited to party members. GP – Smoky MLA Todd Loewen says they’re looking for direction on a number of matters.

“Carbon tax is still a big issue with people and that’s understandable; it’s a huge change in Alberta. Of course, Bill 6; there’s still regulations and stuff going on for farmers. So there’s still a lot of issues going on right now that are concerning Albertans and we’d love to have more input on how Albertans feel about that.”

Loewen says he’s been asked by many people about Jason Kenney’s Alberta P-C leadership bid and campaign to unite the right. He’s open to the idea, but it’s too early to say how it could work.

“We’ve always been interested in uniting Conservatives behind the Wildrose banner and getting as many people involved as possible. There’s actually a lot of interest in that; I’m sure there will be some questions on that.”

Loewen adds that support for the party is growing.

“Basically the last four or five months in particular there’s really been a big interest in the Wildrose. I think people are finally seeing what the NDP government is doing and how it affects the economy of the province. We’ve been rising steadily in the polls and the interest in the party has been growing rapidly, actually.”

A meet and greet is also being held at the A&W north location Thursday at 8 a.m.
