Two days of Canada Day celebrations in the city

The festivities will begin a day early for Canada Day at Muskoseepi Park with the Canada Day Kick Off. On June 30th, there will be live entertainment and music as well as food vendors, bouncy castles and fireworks over the reservoir. The fireworks will be displayed at midnight depending on the weather and wind. The other entertainment begins at 8:00 pm.

The day of Canada Day there will be a Fun Run at the Eastlink Centre. There is a 5 or 10 km run that will be at 8:00 am and wrap up at around 11:00 am. Registration is $20 a person or $50 a family. This event will have mini Canada flags, snacks and water also provided. Registration for the event is at the Eastlink Centre or by calling 780-830-5000.

The parade will start at 1:00 pm with a theme of Strong. Proud. Free.. It will begin on 94th Street at 108th Avenue in Hillside area. The route will then follow along 108th Avenue westbound and turn south on 96th Street which it will then proceed westbound on 100th Avenue to the GPRC parking lot.

There will also be entertainment downtown at Muskoseepi Park and the Grande Prairie Museum on July 1st. There will be live entertainment as well as children’s activities, food vendors and two stages for performances in the park. In the museum, there will be activities like carnival games, kettle corn, Aboriginal cultural performances, bingo and tea. These activities will run 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

The city would like residents to know that there is no ATM at the park and there will be no parking at Muskoseepi Park during both days of the event.

Free shuttle service is available before and after the parade. It will run from the Towne Centre Mall to the Eastlink Centre. There will also be shuttles available every 15 minutes during the events that will take people from the Muskoseepi Park entrance to the GPRC main entrance and Centre 2000.
