Former 2day FM GM opens art gallery

There has been an addition of an art gallery in downtown Grande Prairie. Former 2day FM General Manager Grant Berg has opened Grant Berg Gallery in the downtown for the people of the area to purchase artwork. Works being showcased include Greg Hildebrandt who did the original Star Wars poster in 1977.

“What I want to do is have people realize that you can actually own artwork from famous artists and it’s not going to break the bank. With Greg Hildebrandt, everyone knows his artwork, you can actually buy an original framed sketch for about 250 bucks.”

Berg says the downturn in the economy helped make it more affordable to open up the facility.

“I felt that there was a need in the market that wasn’t being filled. Grande Prairie did not have an art gallery. There was a good one…Unique Gallery a few years back. Over time, there was different owners with different perspectives. It just kind of fell to the wayside until it closed.”

He adds that he has around 40 per cent local artwork on display with some artists instructors from Grande Prairie Regional College. Other artists on display include Disney Animator Nathan Greno.

Prices for pieces in the gallery range from $100 to $9000.

The Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday June 24th.
