Farm hands ready to show off at Wanham Plowing Match

Rain or shine, the 46th annual Wanham Plowing Match gets underway this weekend. Today is the first full day of events, which include heavy horse plowing and pulling and modified tractor and truck pulling.

There’s also a slow-pitch tournament, bull riding and ladies barrel racing. Wanham is considered one of the biggest stops on the PBR tour and this year $10,000 is up for grabs as a ride-off bonus. There are activities planned for children, along with beer gardens and live music from TJ Ruckus both Friday and Saturday night.

The event got started in 1971 as a way to build community pride, raise money, and put Wanham on the map. It also gives farm hands a chance to show off their stuff on old fashioned tractors and modern equipment.
