Grande Prairie fields re-open after near record rainfall

Grande Prairie came within just a few drops of breaking the June 9th rainfall record yesterday. The Swan City saw 25.6 millimetres of rain, just short of the 1989 record of 26.9.

The rain cancelled all baseball games in the area Thursday night, and prompted the City to close all grass playing fields due to significant rain build up. They’re now back open but the Spring Fling Tournament for this weekend has been cancelled.

Another 5 to 10 millimetres is expected overnight, with 10 to 20 more Saturday.
