RCMP in Spirit River have arrested a suspect in an impaired driving case from Wednesday. They were called to Range Road 61 around 3 p.m. where they found a black Dodge 3500Â pickup.
The truck drove into a police cruiser, and then tried to hit a mountie when they got out of their vehicle. Sergeant Jack Poitras says the pickup was later found abandoned and the suspected driver was arrested a distance away. Their name has not been released pending formal charges being laid.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is now investigating the incident, as an officer’s firearm was discharged during the initial encounter. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
