Serious fire forces evacuation south of Little Smoky

A mandatory evacuation notice has been issued for people who live in the Little Smoky area. There is a serious fire between the hamlet and Fox Creek that could mean smoky conditions on Highway 43.

The fire is roughly 10 kilometres north of Fox Creek and 18 kilometres southeast of Little Smoky. It’s heading northwest and away from the community.

Residents south of Little Smoky in Township 66 21 5 south of the Iosegun River and all of Township 65 21 5 are being asked to evacuate immediately to the Paradise Inn. They can bring their small pets there and the evacuation of larger animals can be coordinated with the Fox Creek Fire Department. They’ll be kept at the Valleyview Agricultural Society Grounds.

The evacuation order does not apply to the Town of Fox Creek or the Hamlet of Little Smoky at this time. The MD of Greenview has also issued a State of Local Emergency for the area.
