Alberta highway traffic issues down over Easter weekend

As usual, Alberta RCMP were out in full force over the Easter long weekend and are happy to report that the number of traffic infractions and traffic-related criminal offences are down. Notably, motor vehicle collisions causing injury were down 75 per cent, while the number of people charged with impaired driving was down by almost half.

While 502 people were caught speeding in local detachments over the Easter weekend in 2015, only 122 were nabbed this year. Integrated traffic units caught also 500 less speeders. People going more than 50 kilometres an hour over the limit were also down nearly 50 per cent.

RCMP note that the numbers are expected to go up as investigations continue but feel the decline in traffic infractions and traffic-related criminal offences is worth noting.
