By August 2017, the Crystal Lake substation could have a new taller telecommunications tower. ATCO Electric is looking to begin construction of a 25 meter monopole designed structure in the area at 88 street and 116 avenue which would replace the 19 meter pole that is already there. The original tower has been located in the substation since the 1980 s. City administration recommended signage be only for regulating purposes and that the new replacement pole be coloured gray to blend in.
The open house that was held on March 3rd had only 4 of the 81 invited guests attend and only 1 person left comment on a form with no objections. If the project is approved by all interested and necessary parties, the construction at the substation will begin around August 2016.
