Northern Alberta flu deaths jump to five

Another three people died of the flu in northern Alberta last week. That brings the total to five in the north zone since the start of flu season.

Four of them were people aged 18 to 64 and one was over the age of 65. Four of five had Influenza A H1N1 while the other had Influenza B, but none had been immunized.

The flu has claimed 38 lives in the province so far this year, and all but one of them hadn’t been fully immunized. The number of people hospitalized with the flu continues to jump, with 118 in the north having lab confirmed cases.

More than 95,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the region.
