Grande Prairie MP Chris Warkentin says that the Liberal government has no plan to balance the 2027 federal budget tabled Thursday.
Warkentin says office says the budget would add $765 billon in new debt, if passed.
Warkentin says requests by the official opposition to remove things like extra taxation on fuel, which they believe would save Canadians 20 cents-a-litre, or roughly $1,200 per family. However, the tabled budget does not have gas tax relief, and Warkentin says the Liberals plan to hike the fuel tax early next year.
“The goal of this budget should have been to save Canadians money,” said Warkentin. “Instead, it’s just more spending that will drive up the price of food, fuel, and housing.”
The Grande Prairie MP also suggests the budget also changes what he calls standard accounting practices, which he believes is keeping $476 billion in borrowing off the budget.
“The Liberals have absolutely no plan to balance the budget,” Warkentin added. “Mark Carney is pushing the burden of his spending onto our children and grandchildren. It is shameful, and my Conservative colleagues and I will not stand for it.”
Warkentin adds that if Prime Minister Carney is still borrowing, Canadians will still have to foot the bill.
