Canada’s best disc-jockeys toss for the title in Grande Prairie this weekend

Grande Prairie will be hosting the 2026 National Disc Golf Championship this weekend.

Starting Friday, disc golfers from across the country will be competing across the city.

Chair of the Organizing Committee, Dylan Bressey says that athletes have already started showing up and have begun practicing on the courses.

“Grande Prairie is the best community in Canada to be a disc golfer in. We’ve got unparalleled access to great courses, and we can’t wait to show that off to the country.”

The athletes will be playing on three different courses throughout the city, the three courses are located in: Muskoseepi Park, South Bear Creek Park, and Evergreen Park.

If you do wish to watch, Bressey asks that you stay 30 to 40 feet behind the players, and to not interact with them while they are in active competition.

“This is a spectator sport, and we’ve got the best talent in Canada coming, so we encourage people to come out and check out the competition for themselves.”

“These players can throw incredibly far, and incredibly accurately while shaping their shots.”

The competition is anticipating to see around 400 players attend, with more than half of them coming from outside of the province, including a few from outside of Canada.

“We really are excited to be stimulating our local economy and showing off the Peace Country to hundreds of people who have never visited here before.”

Bressey says there is still plenty of opportunities to volunteer and encourages people to reach out on Facebook to get involved.

The competition starts Friday night and runs until Sunday.
