Northwestern Polytechnic has scored a new centre ice logo in the Design Works Centre.
On Friday, May 8 a handful of NWP coaches and staff helped showcase the new permanent centre ice logo for the women’s hockey team.
This will be the first-ever season that NWP will have a hockey team.

President and CEO Dr. Vanessa Sheane said many local female hockey players have limited opportunities to continue playing after turning 18 and graduating from high school. She added the institution has seen growing demand for a team in recent years.
“This really was a community initiated initiative for NWP. We were approached by female hockey supporters in the region and our community,” Sheane said.
Mayor Jackie Clayton says this is a fantastic opportunity for women in the region to keep playing hockey after high school.
“Having opportunities for girls playing hockey, to continue playing hockey, and while also be educated at the same time is an excellent opportunity. Statistics show that girls more than anyone drop-out of sports at a young-age.”
The team will compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
Officials say Northwestern Polytechnic students and staff will have free access to games once the season begins this fall.
The home opener is scheduled for Oct. 9.
